Arrived early to hear the pipe organ. Impressive! Worth the visit. And it was pretty cheap!

Amazing theater! Incredible old architecture and great movies.

Great independent movie house that also hosts live events and live theater. Hot inside...but air conditioning is being installed and should be up and running by Fall. Funky 1920 vibe.

Love this place. Old, quaint, held together with love and layers of paint. No air conditioning, but that can be remedied - just contribute to the fund for a new air conditioner. Dutiful, caring staff and the players and presenters give it their all. A worthy institution deserving of everyone's support.

Don't miss the rare opportunity to visit this lovely historic theater in the heart of downtown Hilo! While most of the once-abundant early cinema houses have been razed to make way for cookie-cutter multiplexes, the Palace Theater is one of the few examples left, and it contains many of the elements that characterize the style: opulent exterior, painted ceiling, colorful tiled walls, decorative cascading fountains in the lobby, live organ music, and giant velvet curtains. The Palace offers a great selection of independent films, Hollywood Golden Age classics, silent movies, and live concerts. Arrive early so you can hear Ron Mazurowski play local Hawaii classics like the "Hilo March" on the mighty pipe organ. Nearby street parking is free and plentiful at most times, especially in the evening. Conveniently close to a number of restaurants, cafes, and the Tsunami Museum. As of July 2017, no AC (which I didn't mind, but some may want to stick to an evening show and dress lightly), though installation plans are in the works. Although some restoration projects are ongoing, the Palace already shines as truly glorious example of a bygone era of moviegoing. Please visit and support this amazing landmark!
