Both tubes have orange spraypaint arrows that show you which way to get out of the cave - which can be helpful if you're not following any strategy for picking which forks to take.
Parking available across the street.
You will be in absolute darkness the whole time. Nothing lives in the tunnels, though you'll see roots and hanging moss occasionally. The whole place is wet, there's no avoiding it.
Anyway it was a fantastic experience, something unforgettable!
Good for novice spelunkers like myself. I used an LED handheld flashlight, didn't wear a coat, and had long pants. The temperature in the tunnels is the same as outside - as above so below. The whole experience requires a good deal of crouching/crawling, so not recommended for those aiming for a walk in the park.
Don't go if you aren't willing to get dirty!
Don't bother bringing camera equipment unless you have you have your own lighting or you have faith in your low light photography. It won't come out good otherwise.
A little hard to find but well worth the effort. Steep stairs to get into the caves and you must have a light and really good shoes. Wear a raincoat if you don't want to get soaked.
If you are a fan of cave exploration, then this place is for you. Headlamps and flashlights are a requirement if you plan to go in since there is no light. Inside the caves will be wet and slippery. You'll have to do a bit of crawling to get inside as well. Saw a bunch of roaches crawling when I turned on the light, so expect to find some of those when you're there.
There are two tubes - one is relatively easy with large sweeping tunnels that end up in patches of sunshine, the other narrows progressively and branches until you give up. Both have smaller offshoots (the size of cooling vents) for more adventurous cavedivers than me.
This is pretty awesome. If you go past the low ceiling part, it opens up and you can walk for about 100m to a "cathedral" where it opens up and is really cool. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes because the ground is quite uneven.
Fun self guided tour. Uneven walking surface sharp lava rocks. Flashlights and or headlamps are required. There is no light in the lava tubes. Sturdy shoes required. Use caution.
