Love being home in Hilo.
After this embarrassing display, I was notified the metal size requirement bin was actually the wrong one (then why was it in front of the gate?) and I had to fit them inside another bin, which they did, except Milly told me the bin can't "shake" when I removed the bags from the metal bin to demonstrate they meet the size requirements (what sort of contrived nonsense is this?)
They did fit, and I'm glad I was able to bring my carry on sized bags on board, as I have done so for over a decade of flying with them, in spite of the gate agents' incompetent and unnecessary authoritarian charade. (Even supposing they hadn't fit, Becky and Milly should have been more polite and helpful, rather than barking orders at me.)
Becky and Milly, United gate agents for a flight to Los Angeles, were absolutely rude and disrespectful, demanding my TSA-approved, appropriately sized carry on luggage be checked, even though I fly frequently without checking them. In front of all the passengers, I had to unpack and move several items between bags in order for them to "fit".
What's more, I had a small grocery bag with several snacks for the flight, which I am definitely certain I'm allowed to have and hold in my lap (and which I saw at least two other unaccosted passengers carrying). The gate agents demanded I show them my snacks, then scoffed at me in disbelief. Unbelievably rude! Did I mention I had a First Class reservation, costing over $1,300 for a five hour flight?
TLDR: United gate agents did now show respect for me as a passenger nor individual. I will not be flying with this airline again.
