I was able to get an appointment within 2 days, and had no wait at his office.
I walk a lot, and some years ago I went to see Dr. Sugai for a severely swollen inflamed left foot that had gradually come about and worsened only from walking (I wear very good sports shoes). He came in, put gloves on, hams and hands at his side, and just stood there looking at my feet from about 3' away. He did not even touch them or examine them further. Then he just shrugged his shoulders and said, "Well, I don't know what that is..." And that was IT! No examination! Not even a referral to get x-rays or an MRI! He got PAID for this. I walked out limping, disgusted. I am never seeing him again.
Well, he cut off my toe nail, so I cannot really say I loved it. But I found the Dr. and his staff to be extremely pleasant and professional. Dr. explained what was wrong, and his recommendations. The procedure was also handled professionally, with the Dr. explaining step by step as he proceeded.
Since then I went to another podiatrist (at the time had to go off island), and he had tests done, and he correctly diagnosed and treated my foot until it was healed. Don't bother going to Dr. Sugai for foot care.
He may be okay if you want your toe nails cut, but I had a sports injury to my Achilles Tendon. I was told it was inflammation or a partial tear. No kidding, that is what I made the appointment for, good guess. Okay, how about an ultra-sound or MRI to diagnose the extent of the injury and a prognosis for recovery? No way, I got a prescription for Motrin.and a bill for....... $144.00. I wanted information on rehabilitation therapy, how to prevent further injury via preventative measures and bracing, taping etc. The response was bland. I had to ask specifically regarding even taping. He said to run one piece of tape from the heal to the calf, no further instructions as to what position should the foot be in when I do this taping. No demonstration like, here let me show you how to tape this to prevent further injury. No look in his eyes like he cared. Just come back in 2 weeks and bring in grandma for the toe nail clip. Sorry I won't be back! I was looking for an expert and this was honestly the worst doctor visit I've ever had the pleasure of wasting my time with. Save yourself and find a Doctor elsewhere.
