Very pretty but small park. There's a fish pond and old statue of King Kalakaua. There's also many small town events held here. Not a playground park though. More of a relaxing type park in the heart of old Hilo town.
Just watched a public Shakespeare in the park performance here... magical!
Never crowded. Very friendly destination
Kalakaua Park is a small city park located on Waianuenue Ave across from the the old US Post Office and Federal building. It has a large banyon tree and many places to sit and relax in the shade. There are no restrooms for the public, but you can use the restrooms at the Post office. Kalakaua park is a good place to decide on where to go for lunch or coffee. There is no playground for children, but plenty of room to run or play Frisbee. Sometimes there are local theater groups who perform and rehearse there. The library is just a few short (uphill) blocks from the park. Kalakaua park is the center of old Hilo town. Kick back and enjoy the cool breeze and imagine how Hilo was before Statehood. DT
The beautiful banyan tree it's something to behold. Sadly there are port-a-potties spoiling the view a little, wish they would place them somewhere else in the park.
Gorgeous prestine grounds for vacation backdrop photos and relaxation. Many banyan trees, limitless blue skys and ocean and lake views.
