Took the combo Hilo town tour and the longer escorted five hour tour to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Made three stops at the park: Jagger Museum & overlook, steam vents, and Thurston lava tube. Afterwards made special stops to Akatsuka Orchid Gardens in Volcano, the Mauna Loa Macadamia nut factory & store, and finally a visit to Richardson's black sand beach to see the friendly turtles. Bonnie was our tour guide and driver and throughout the drive she kept up an entertaining spiel of detailed information which kept our bus going and rolling in the aisles. The bus is not an air conditioned motor coach type vehicle, the tour combo is only $65, the larger windows have been removed for maximum ventilation during the drive so a/c wasn't really needed. Highly recommended, especially Bonnie. The best feeling of ohana (family) and aloha (welcome) by this tour company made this the highlight of my two week vacation to the islands. Would definitely take this tour again.
Had a day in Hilo as a passenger getting off a cruise ship - was the first port on our trip to offer a clear tour operator directly outside the port. We did the hope on, hope off option, and the 11am guided tour option - one or both is well worth your money. For the two options, it did more then any tour offered through the cruise, and was less then half the price of the closest package.
